I got this notebook because I totally torn the last netbook (also an Acer). I bought this mainly because I'm on budget. I need a computer that functions and does everyday task. This computer comes with i5 processor and its fast enough for everything I have to do. The screen size is 15.6,which is good and actually feels lighter than my brother's Toshiba Satellite 14''. There are things I would want Acer to improve, one of them is the speakers. Those speakers are totally horrible, worse than my Acer Aspire One netbook, i think one side is not even working. Of course, the built-in microphone is just as bad as those speakers. Of course, if i have to record anything, I'll use external earphone and microphone. Another thing is the power input, it is located right next to the fan, which is not the ideal place to plug. Acer Aspire One netbook also have the power plug/input at the same spot, which I relate to why I have to replace power adapter so often because power adapter's cord bends... Read more

I love acer computers- I had just bought a timelinex that died on me after 3 days, so I purchased this one.

For an i5, this computer is unfortunately a bit sluggish- enough so that I went to upgrade the ram right away(it's only 4 out of box). I got the ram and found that (from checking out a few videos) that it is NOT an easy task to install more ram into the computer. The sluggishness was distinct enough for me to return the computer and get something a bit nicer for only a little bit more money.

That being said- I do run a lot of heavy duty programs- VB Ultimate, MS Office Suite, Adobe Suite and various developer tools. The average user (games, netflix, and MS Office home) shouldn't have much to complain about with this computer: it's very lightweight for its size, the screen is perfect for basic to intermediate gaming and movie watching, and of course- the price.

Easily my all time favorite laptop. It feels light, the fan is always cool, its quiet, the screen picture is great, the specs for this are pretty high considering the low price, and it is fast. If you want a laptop around this price range I would highly recommend it. Tried it with some games and it works wonderful playing Europa Universals 3, The Sims 3, World of Warcraft and Empire: Total War. The audio is fantastic it really sounds great when playing games, music, and video. Works great when running tons of programs at once never had a slowdown. The picture during games and videos is fantastic in the HD. It runs DVDs perfectly. Webcam quality is really good. Everything about this laptop is great for the price range. Not much to complain about but I kind of do not like the feel of the mouse other than that its fantastic.

I actually purchased this along with a Dell XPS 15 with a 1080p screen and GT520m, and returned the Dell in favor of this Lenovo for several reasons, ($100 difference in price being one of them). Here are my thoughts after a head to head comparison and several weeks of use. This is not an ultraportable notebook, its a full-on 15" desktop replacement. The battery is 62Whr (if you get the y470, unless you get an i7, the battery is less potent, the same does not apply to the 570).

The high points:
-Phenomenal heat management thanks to a massive copper heatsink and decent fan on the left side. The palm rests stay cool even under gaming load. If you use a cooling pad, you can also overclock the GT555m.
-Very good sound for a laptop. The only laptop that sounds better is the Dell XPS since it has a built in subwoofer.I purchased a 1080p xps 15 the same time as the y570 for a head to head and kept the y570

This laptop met and exceeded all of my standards.

I'm a grad student and my computer needs are admittedly pretty basic (Internet, Word/Excel, the occasional game, etc.); however, I wanted a computer with specs that weren't going to be completely obsolete in the next four years. I move around a lot and I'm constantly whipping my laptop out, so I needed something light and easily transportable. Also, seeing as how I am a grad student, I couldn't break the bank.

PROS

Battery life. The 8-9 hour figure is not an exaggeration. This is by far one of the nicest features. I go out all day without bothering to bring my power cord along. It's about 6PM as I write this; I've been on my laptop repeatedly throughout the day since 8AM, and I still have 2.5 hours of battery life to go. Love it.
